F1 Goldendoodle is the offspring of a golden retriever and a poodle so it's 50% golden retriever and 50% poodle. This is a first generation doodle. Due to a wide range of possible genetics each puppy in the litter can vary widely in color. Their fur can vary from the curly poodle type to a straight golden retriever and anywhere in between. There is an estimated 2-3% chance of light shedding.
F1B Goldendoodle is the offspring from an F1 Goldendoodle who is then bred to another poodle to amount to a 75% poodle and 25% golden retriever. This creates a more hypoallergenic dog with an extremely low chance of shedding and a highly desirable coat quality.
Multigenerational Golendoodle (also known as multigen) is a dog that has goldendoodle parents and you would have to go back at least one generation to find the poodle and golden retrievers. The shedding depends on the genetics that have been bred through the generations.
Standard Goldendoodle is the offspring of a standard poodle and a golden retriever. Dixie, who is our gorgeous standard Goldendoodle, is 48 pounds, which is an average of her parent’s weight.
Mini Goldendoodle is the offspring of a toy poodle and a golden retriever. These dogs fall in the medium size range. They can be between 13" - 20" with the average height being closer to 17" (from shoulder to paw) and can weigh between 20 - 40 pounds, depending on the size of the parents. Dixie and Duke have produced puppies that range from 18-33 pounds.
Micro-Mini Goldendoodle (sometimes referred to as Micro, Petite, or Toy Goldendoodle) is the offspring of a mini F1 Goldendoodle and a toy poodle. These are usually much smaller in size with a range in height from 12" - 15" and can weigh between 10 - 20 pounds. The average range of our adult-size Micro-Mini Goldendoodle puppies has been 10-20 pounds but we have seen some very rare outliers, with 7 pounds being the smallest and 28 pounds being the largest.
When bred responsibly, these designer dogs most often take on the best genetics from both the golden retriever and the poodle. This is due to the amazing benefit of hybrid vigor, which is the reason Goldendoodles are generally healthier than pure bred dogs. All sizes are completely adorable and make great family pets! It's all up to personal preference as to which size and generation you would like to adopt into your family.
F1 and F1B refer to what generation the doodle is compared to the original dam and sire. Clear as mud? It sounds more complicated than it really is. We'll also explain a little about what the different sizes are. If you still have questions contact us and we'll be happy to help.
